NeoSport 5mm Pull-On Paddle Boot

Posted by on December 28, 2011

Moving in-and-out of your kayak without adequate, closed-toed shoes can put your feet at risk. Coastal elements such as sea shells, broken glass, dock splinters, fish hooks, and sharp rocks can quickly put an end to your day on the water. But wait…it’s a bird…it’s a plane…it’s the NeoSport 5mm Pull-On Paddle Boot to the rescue!!!

Designed without bulky zippers or Velcro straps, the NeoSport Pull-On simply slips on to provide a snug, supportive barrier around your foot. They feel like a neoprene sock with a sole and keep your feet warm from even some of the coldest coastal and pond waters. Their form-fit, zipper-free design keeps sand and mud from getting trapped between your boot and your foot. And unlike many water shoes which have clunky fixtures and zippers, they won’t rust or deteriorate from the saltwater elements. NeoSport designs all of their footwear with puncture-resistant soles which easily prevents the accidental razor-clam from ruining your day. The soles are designed with a “zig-zag” like traction which help in potentially slippery situations, but can still become susceptible on slick, algae covered rocks.  After a day on the water, the NeoSports dry quickly and are easily stored. Even in the dead of humid summer, these boots do an excellent job at not retaining the lingering odors of the ocean/foot stench.

One of the most attractive features of the NeoSport pull-on paddle boot is the affordable price. Unlike its competitors which can soar into $40 to $80 range, the NeoSport can be picked up at your local shop for under $20. Due to their low price point, I expected to only get one or two seasons of use before the NeoSport would start to break down or lose functionality. Boy was I wrong! I am now entering my fifth paddling season with my NeoSport paddling boots and I am more than impressed with their quality and long-lasting comfort.

Final Verdict:

Pros: affordable price, lasting quality, simple-design, comfort

Cons: traction does not provide adequate slip-prevention, can be difficult to remove when wet

Size rating: Sized as expected
