My girlfriend Meaghan and I spent this past weekend at the South County Hot Air Balloon Festival in Kingston, RI. She’d mentioned her dream of going up in a hot air balloon on numerous occasions and I figured that this festival was a golden opportunity to shine! The true destination of our trip was classified as ultra-top-secrete and I struggled to keep it that way for over a month (all that she knew was that we’d be spending the night in Newport, RI)! You should have seen the look on her face when she discovered that we were going on a hot air balloon ride and not to the Newport Greek Orthodox Festival!
The trip was a blast and we were able to take 100s of pictures of the balloons during the day and at night. This photo turned out to be my favorite as it captures the glow of the balloon in the evening twilight. However, nothing compared to our tethered balloon ride early the next morning. It was a dream-come-true for us both!
Notes: The photo was taken with my Canon Rebel T2i DLSR using a Canon 18-55mm EF-S lens. The camera was set on aperture priority with f/6.3 and ISO 800 to calculate a shutter speed of 1/15s. The focal length was 42mm.
