This may seem slightly ironic to those readers who recall my comments about Stand Up Paddle Boarding in my post entitled “Five Predictions for Paddle Sport in 2013.” I believe that I referred to SUP in the Northeast as a “passing fad” that would “fade like yoyos and pogs did in the 90s.” Ouch…
I’ve given SUP a closer look this spring and I’ll be the first to admit that my predictions may have been a little too bold. It seems that SUP is alive this season and is here to stay in New England (at least for now). This inspired us to add a few more boards to the rental fleet and I’ve since been tasked to develop a SUP instructional program down at the shop. More than a few teachers have reminded me that the best way to reinforce new learning is to teach it to others. This is the goal of this new SUP category and I hope that you enjoy the ride as I expand my paddling horizons this summer!
Happy Paddling!
